Whenever I'm With You
This will probably be my last book review before I start another story. If I'm being completely honest, this book is one of the best books I have ever read, and I've read a lot! Whenever I'm With You by Lydia Sharp was the type of book that is so frustrating, but in a good way. The whole piece was so well written and it moved so nicely throughout each chapter.
The book starts off with Gabi moving to Alaska with her father after her parents divorce. They both wanted an escape from her mother's non stop paparazzi after starring in yet another movie. When she first arrives in Alaska, she feels completely lost with no friends or social life. However she meets Kai, her charming next door neighbor who makes this unknown place feel like home with his joyful personality. He shares his family, friends, and his warmth with her. She develops a deep relationship with him and once she thinks she has finally found her place in her new life, the boy she just starts to love disappears. No letters, no calls, no nothing. She is left with the closest thing to Kai, his twin brother Hunter.
Luckily Hunter has an idea of where Kai would be; retracing their missing father's footsteps up north. The only problem is their father died a year ago and Kai refuses to believe it until he sees his lifeless body for himself, but Gabi assumes that their father simply just left them. In order to bring him home, they need to go after him but they do not realize how difficult their trip will be. After agreeing to go with him, Gabi and Hunter start their long journey through the mountains. They quickly discover that there is a blizzard near and panic takes over knowing Kai is out there all alone. As much as Gabi wants to be annoyed with Kai for just leaving, she only feels absolute determination to get him back. Especially because he was the one who saved her from feeling so lost and alone, she refuses to give up on him.
As they head out on their long journey, they face obstacles a lot bigger than they had anticipated; weather, animals, and hypothermia. Gabi is willing to risk everything, even her own life, if there is the slightest chance that she will ever see him again. Along their trip, they learn a lot about each other and she finds out that their father did not leave them, but is dead. Finding out this news only makes her want to find him faster so he won't have to witness the unfortunate truth by himself. He was there for her and she is determined to do the same for him.
Finally after days of hiking with little food and water, they finally spot Kai in the distance. It feels like a huge relief to finally see him, even if it was the smallest silhouette. They shortly realize that the worst is yet to come. It takes them many falls, tears, and bursts of adrenaline to make it up to Kai. They find him and after a tearful reunion, they head over to one of his father's cabins. Gabi knows they will not find him there, but she doesn't have the heart to convince him that he won't be there.
That's where I stop explaining and you pick up the book and read it. This book was absolutely incredible; I promise it will not let you down! The ending was written so well and it couldn't have ended any better. Normally, books I read will have a slower start, but this book got right into it and had you on the edge of your seat after each page. 10/10 definitely recommend this book! It will make you feel like you were actually hiking through Alaska with them and faces all of the challenges they were. This was one of the books that was just so amazing, you could read it a million times over and never get tired of it. I hope you enjoy this beautiful story of love and hope just as much as I did.
